Our Charity Work

Yorkshire Bridge Inn Charitable WorkThe Yorkshire Bridge Inn has been part of the landscape in the Hope Valley for many years. We have a dedicated team working for us, nearly all of whom live locally, so we have a strong commitment to giving back to our local community.

Over the last 27 years we’ve supported many grassroots sports clubs, village events and community groups, as well as helping to raise funds for numerous local and national charities.

The team here are passionate about helping in our local area and many contribute through their own personal fundraising endeavours and volunteering their time to actively raise awareness for causes or charities close to their heart.

As a business we aim to support our team members with their initiatives, but we also want to lead the way by sponsoring local clubs and raising valuable funds for good causes within our community and beyond.

We’ve got some super ideas for raising money over the next couple of years and we can’t wait to see our ideas in action and local organisations benefitting. Here’s a brief summary of what we’ve been up to recently and what we’ve got planned.

Blythe House Hospicecare

We’re working closely with Blythe House Hospice to set up various projects to raise money to support their work. Our team members and guests really appreciate the amazing work this charity does throughout Derbyshire, and have been keen to lend their support.

We’ve helped with sponsorship, prizes for raffles and donations from the sales of some of our best selling dishes. We host a wreath making workshop each Christmas, and in 2025 two of our team will be taking on the Sahara Trek Challenge!

We hope our innovative fundraising ideas for Blythe House Hospice will provide a long-term income stream for the charity.

Aplastic Anaemia Trust Annual Peak District Walk

We are always delighted to host The Aplastic Anaemia Trust – a small UK charity dedicated to raising funds for research into this rare and life threatening disease. It’s a charity very close to our hearts as a member of our team was diagnosed with Aplastic Anaemia back in 2013.

The Peak District Walk is an annual event starting and finishing at our pub. Our most recent event included a folk band made up of top haematologists and consultants from the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. They joined us for the day to entertain supporters and fundraisers. It’s always a great social event and gives patients and families a much-needed opportunity to meet other people in the same situation as themselves.

Defibrillator

Yorkshire Bridge Inn Charitable WorkOur team members and wonderful customers helped to raise funds for the purchase of a steel cabinet for our defibrillator. This enabled us to install the equipment on our outside wall so it’s now accessible 24 hours a day. Whilst we hope it’s never needed, it’s reassuring to know it’s there and may save someone’s life in the future.

Once it was installed, we hosted an evening of defibrillator training so that our team members would know how to use a defibrillator and would feel more confident about helping someone in need.

Hathersage Cricket Club

We sponsor Hathersage Cricket Club, a club with over two hundred years of history in our neighbouring village.  It’s a friendly, sociable club and we are extremely proud to have our name and logo on their kit. We love to watch them play, when we can, and we always look forward to hearing their results.

Our Amazing Kitchen Porter

Yorkshire Bridge Inn Charitable WorkWe’ve got lots of great team members but one who stands out for his fundraising efforts is our Kitchen Porter. Paul is a dedicated fundraiser who has raised thousands for our village pre-school and primary school. He’s always thinking of new fundraising ideas and has had some very innovative ideas over the years. Recently we were saving all our milk bottle tops for a ‘duck race’!

Paul is our resident expert on anything related to fundraising – raffles, bingo, race nights, football competitions, auctions – you name it and Paul knows about it and, more importantly, how to organise it. Although he wasn’t quite so vocal when someone mentioned skydiving recently!
